Garrett Underwood

Chief Life School Officer

Garrett Underwood is a passionate community leader dedicated to empowering Transition Age Youth through innovative support systems and dignified housing solutions.

As Founder and Executive Director of Seed House Project, Garrett leads with a vision to transform how young adults transition to independence. He combines strategic leadership with genuine compassion, utilizing technology and innovative approaches to address youth homelessness in Los Angeles.

Prior to founding SHP, Garrett served as Outreach Coordinator and Program Manager for Outreach at PATH in downtown Los Angeles, where he developed expertise in direct service and program development for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Garrett holds a degree in Kinesiology from Cal State Northridge and studied Sociology of Organization Development in the graduate program at Azusa Pacific, a background that informs his holistic approach to youth development and organizational leadership.

As an advocate for system-impacted youth, Garrett collaborates with organizations focused on restorative justice, youth advocacy, and educational equity. He engages in speaking events, workshops, and mentoring to promote structural change and community solutions that prioritize youth voices.

Garrett enjoys playing the Native flute and finding peace in its melodies. He loves outdoor adventures and reading, and cherishes spending time with his family, which keeps him grounded and inspired in his mission.

Cecilia Gonzalez

Dean of Life School Programs

Cecilia Gonzalez was raised in the San Fernando Valley (SFV) and has dedicated her career to uplifting the SFV community. Following her education, Cecilia was awarded a fellowship with the Justice Policy Network where she obtained knowledge in leadership, policy, and the effects legislation has on communities.

She started her career working for Congressman Tony Cardenas, focusing on Juvenile and Criminal Justice and then went on to establish the College Culture Reentry Hub at Los Angeles Mission College working with formerly incarcerated students. In 2019, she managed a state-funded survivors of crime program, bringing much needed and innovative services to crime survivors in the Northeast SFV during the height of the pandemic. Shifting her focus to fundraising, she helped set the foundation for the expansion of the LA Tequila Fest in her role as Director of Development with The Andres y Maria Cardenas Family Foundation.

Cecilia has experience working in community based organizations, foundations, and institutions of higher learning, and brings skills in budget management, grant writing, community mobilization, and management. She is most passionate about program development and implementation. Cecilia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies from California State University and a Master of Social Work from University of Southern California.

In her free time she enjoys pretending to be Godzilla and King-Kong with her son.

Shannon Cain

Director of Life School's Development and Communications

Shannon Cain is the Director of Development and Communications for the Seed House Project, where she oversees targeted strategies to engage a diverse range of stakeholders in the philanthropic and business spaces to drive support for the organization and its impactful programs.

With over 20 years of professional experience, her functional expertise includes development, communications, public relations, marketing, and public affairs. Working in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors, she found her passion in the world of philanthropy and values using her skills for the betterment of underserved communities.

She has worked with Building Skills Partnership, a California statewide non-profit organization that improves the quality of life for immigrant property service workers in low-wage industries and their families by increasing the skills, access to education, and opportunities for career and community advancement.

Previously, as a director for After-School All-Stars, Los Angeles; a nonprofit founded by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, she was responsible for communications and development initiatives for programs benefiting thousands of K-12 grade youths from underserved communities throughout Los Angeles. Some of her responsibilities included managing relationships with large corporate, community, philanthropic partners, and collaborating with high-profile affiliates such as the organization’s esteemed program ambassadors, Kobe Bryant and Lebron James.

Shannon values creating opportunities for deserving populations and believes in working to advance future generations for lives of impact and success. In her personal time, she enjoys yoga, walking her three dogs, and hanging out at the beach. She is the mother of twin girls and enjoys spending time with her family.

Monica Quezada

Monica Quezada is a dedicated community advocate with 14 years of experience in the non-profit sector. Born in El Salvador and raised in the United States, Monica brings a rich cultural perspective to her role as Housing & Community Supervisor at Seed House Project.

Throughout her career, Monica has consistently demonstrated a deep passion for helping people realize their full potential and discover their true purpose in life. Her expertise spans program development, community outreach, and youth mentoring, with a particular focus on creating supportive environments where young adults can thrive.

Prior to joining SHP, Monica worked with diverse communities, developing programs that address the unique challenges facing vulnerable populations. Her approach combines compassion with practical solutions, ensuring that participants receive both emotional support and tangible resources.

Christian Demeritt is a passionate educator, case manager, and creative entrepreneur from Miami, Florida. With a background in both case management and the performing arts, she brings a unique blend of empathy, leadership, and creativity to her work. Christian is deeply committed to empowering individuals through education, self-discovery, and community engagement.

Her work is driven by a desire to inspire and uplift others, whether through workshops, mentorship, or her dynamic approach to personal growth. Known for her sharp wit and love of storytelling, Christian fosters meaningful connections and creates spaces for transformation and healing. Christian holds a Bachelor of Arts from Florida A&M University and a Master’s of Fine Arts in Film from New York Film Academy.

With a strong background in education, a passion for organization, and a heart for service, Jennifer Malefsky brings a unique blend of skills to her role as Administrative Assistant at Seed House Project. As a former educator, she values clear communication, attention to detail, and building meaningful connections—all of which she now applies behind the scenes to help the organization thrive.

Jennifer is deeply committed to supporting causes that make a difference and takes pride in ensuring that day-to-day operations run smoothly. Whether managing schedules, streamlining administrative tasks, or offering tech-savvy solutions, she enjoys being the reliable support that allows others to focus on Seed House Project’s mission of empowering youth and creating real pathways to healing and opportunity.

Outside of work, Jennifer is always learning and growing—whether exploring wellness research, volunteering in her community, or diving into creative projects. She is grateful to be part of a team that values impact, collaboration, and compassion.

Jamie Marisa

Jamie Marisa is a dynamic Community Development Coordinator with a strong record of empowering individuals and fostering thriving communities. With a foundation in Psychology and a deep passion for advocacy, Jamie brings a unique combination of lived experience and diverse skills to her work.

She has demonstrated exceptional communication and public speaking abilities, sharing her personal story at national conferences with audiences ranging from 200 to over 1,200 participants. Her expertise spans impactful community engagement, access to quality education, and mental health reform to support the most vulnerable populations. Jamie has refined these skills through work with organizations such as Young Invincibles and Adelante Youth Alliance.

Active in her local community, Jamie serves as an on-campus mentor, tutors students in subjects ranging from sociology to economics, and collaborates with healthcare professionals. She was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by Columbia University’s coding cohort in 2024 and is currently contributing to a national campaign against drug overdoses through her work with the CDC, supporting Good Samaritan laws.

Jamie is driven by a commitment to mental health policy reform, violence prevention, and equitable access to resources. She is certified in ABA De-escalation and trauma-informed crisis intervention, and her experience includes program development and building collaborative partnerships. With a passion for uplifting underserved communities and a proven talent for connecting with large audiences, Jamie is dedicated to helping build a more resilient and just society.

Michael Rosales

Community & Belonging Coordinator

Mike Rosales was raised in Venice, California, and has dedicated his career to community service and youth development. Currently serving as Community Services Coordinator at Seed House Project, Mike also works as a Direct Support Professional for both Modern Support Services and Creative Minds, reflecting his deep commitment to supporting individuals with diverse needs

Throughout his extensive career, Mike has built a remarkable foundation of service, including 28 years as a Special Education Assistant with LAUSD and 21½ years as a Community Services Program Specialist for the City of Santa Monica. His diverse expertise encompasses youth management, working with children and adults with autism, sports coaching, event coordination, healthcare provision, and after-school programming. Mike’s approach to his work is guided by his belief that making a positive difference in others’ lives is both fulfilling and an honor. This philosophy drives his dedication to coordinating services that empower young adults in their journey toward independence.

When he’s not working, Mike enjoys spending quality time with his family and traveling together whenever possible. He’s also passionate about sports, particularly boxing and UFC, and stays active as a basketball coach.

Ravynn focuses on creating and nurturing a supportive environment for members to explore their inner selves and unlock their true potential. Her sessions are designed to foster personal development and guide members in achieving their highest potential. Ravynn is passionate about spreading positivity, encouraging wellness, and making a meaningful impact on the lives of those she serves.

Looking to the future, Ravynn aims to continue empowering members by enhancing her practice and exploring new meditation techniques. Her dedication to personal and collective well-being is at the heart of her work, as she strives to support each member in their journey toward peace, confidence, and fulfillment.

When she’s not guiding others, Ravynn is deeply committed to living an eco-conscious lifestyle, continually expanding her knowledge as a lifelong student of life. She enjoys exploring the world, connecting with changemakers, and building supportive communities. Heather Dean has a professional background spanning television writing, nonprofit administration, and youth development. Before moving to LA, she spent 10 years in Chicago working with at-risk youth, the parks & recreation department and community development programs where she gained firsthand experience in relationship-centered, community-based care.

She approaches her role with curiosity, positivity and a strong commitment to meeting each member where they are. Heather has also worked in the entertainment industry. No matter the setting, her work is rooted in a deep belief that dialogue can be a tool for connection, visibility, and change – whether through writing or through the everyday practice of listening and showing up for others. Heather holds a Bachelor’s degree in Community Health and Wellness from Northeastern Illinois University.

Dr. Jason Plunkett

Dr. Jason Plunkett is a distinguished organizational psychologist with over 20 years of experience in enhancing leadership capabilities, improving team dynamics, and fostering organizational effectiveness. He holds a Psy.D. in Organizational Psychology and a Masters in Clinical Psychology. Throughout his career, Dr. Plunkett has dedicated himself to helping organizations navigate complex challenges through evidence-based strategies and innovative solutions.

As the founder of True Solutions Consultancy, Dr. Plunkett established a firm specializing in leadership development, effective communication, emotional intelligence, and employee engagement. He designs and delivers customized training programs that have positively impacted hundreds of leaders and teams, conducts organizational assessments, and develops strategic interventions to enhance workplace culture and productivity.

The first American-born child of native Belizean parents, Dr. Plunkett has over 23 years of counseling experience. He serves on the boards of two nonprofit organizations dedicated to advancing youth and has been the United States Clinical Director for ZOE International, a nonprofit committed to ending child sex trafficking, since 2016.

Dr. Plunkett is a proud husband to his wife, Jackie, and father to four children and one grandson. In his spare time, he enjoys motorcycles and collecting tattoos.

Dr. Andrea Humphrey, affectionately known as “Dr. Dre,” is a dynamic author, speaker, coach, pastor, and leadership specialist. She serves as CEO of I.Q. Training Inc., an executive development company, and as the Lead Pastor of H.O.P.E.’s House International Ministries. As a businesswoman and entrepreneur, Andrea also leads the Hope Community Development Center in Granada Hills, seamlessly blending marketplace expertise with ministry.

With 20 years of financial management experience at The Walt Disney Company and an MBA, Andrea brings a strong financial acumen to her leadership roles. Her expertise in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) has shaped her understanding of cultural storytelling and bridging gaps. A successful church planter and accomplished author, Andrea has written More Than Just His Wife and Transformed for Purpose, impacting readers worldwide. Her greatest joy comes from her daughters, Lauryn and Sydney.

Marc Henderson is a seasoned financial professional and dedicated community advocate who brings a shared commitment to empowering youth and fostering opportunities for personal and professional growth to the Seed House Project’s board.

As a Certified Financial Planner, Market Director at Thrivent, and managing partner of Legacy Wealth Group, Marc specializes in illuminating the path to financial clarity, empowering his clients to build wealth, live generously and leave a legacy. With nearly 15 years of experience in the finance industry, Marc’s extensive education includes a bachelor’s degree from CSU Northridge, an MBA in Financial Planning from Indiana Wesleyan University, and an Executive Certificate from Pepperdine University.

Marc’s commitment to social impact extends beyond finance as evidenced by his role as a founding partner with BNRE, an investment group focused on social entrepreneurship projects, including the recent acquisition of a local barbershop in Granada Hills, CA. Throughout his career, Marc has actively served in leadership roles with numerous nonprofit organizations, demonstrating his passion for giving back and making a difference.

Marc’s greatest source of pride is his family, including his wife Ariel and their daughter Marielle.

Ryan Taylor

Executive Director, LEAP (Learning Enrichment After-School Program)

Ryan Taylor is an award-winning visionary who has been featured on CNN, and in Entrepreneur magazine, the Los Angeles Times and many other publications. Taylor has been honored by the Los Angeles City Council for his philanthropic efforts to support underserved children in his community, by the Inglewood City Council for his entrepreneurial endeavors and also sits on the boards of several non-profit organizations. He is also a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

When Ryan is not enjoying ‘fambam’ time with his children, extended family and close friends, he takes pleasure in playing golf, swimming, writing and developing business systems to make brands immortal.

Krystal Sims is a highly accomplished and versatile professional in the non-profit social services industry. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work and Family Consumer Sciences with a focus on Family Studies from California State University, Northridge, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over ten years of experience in housing and homeless services. With extensive expertise in areas such as homeless services, human resources, healthcare, and higher education, Krystal excels in developing and implementing programs and procedures that align with organizational culture, values, and vision while driving systemic change and fostering professional growth.

As Director of Recruitment and Onboarding at LA Family Housing, Krystal led inclusive recruitment strategies that resulted in a 51% workforce increase during the pandemic. She is particularly passionate about talent acquisition, social services, and creating meaningful connections between individuals and opportunities. Her inclusive and analytical approaches have consistently contributed to organizational success and workforce development and growth.

Krystal is skilled at managing teams and upskilling employees. In her free time, she enjoys expanding her knowledge of financial investments and real estate investing and sharing her insights with others.
