Transformative change happens when community, leadership, and authentic storytelling intersect. Last night in Downtown Los Angeles, Seed House Project had the privilege of experiencing that intersection firsthand at Amity Foundation’s inaugural Speaker Series event, “The Power of Story.”
Representing Seed House Project, Director of Development and Communications Shannon Cain joined leaders, advocates, and community members to hear from an incredible panel, including Amity Foundation’s CEO and President, Doug Bond, and Homeboy Industries co-CEO, Shirley Torres.
Healing, Equity, and the Impact of Storytelling
The evening focused on a vital truth: lived experience is one of the most potent tools we have to drive systemic change, equity, and personal healing. Hearing Doug Bond speak alongside Shirley Torres and the resilient women from Amity’s La Entrada campus served as a powerful reminder of why community-centered work matters. When individuals are empowered to share their journeys, it bridges gaps, breaks down stigma, and creates pathways toward genuine transformation.
Building a Stronger Safety Net for Youth
For Seed House Project, moments like this reflect a deep and ongoing partnership. Amity Foundation has made a multi-year commitment to our mission, providing vital operational support that directly expands our housing programs and supportive services for local youth.
Lasting change cannot happen in isolation. Sustainable progress relies on strong, trust-based relationships among organizations that share a vision for a safer, more supportive Los Angeles. Amity’s continued support allows Seed House Project to scale its capacity, keep housing accessible, and ensure that young people in our community have a stable foundation to build their futures.
Looking Ahead
We extend our deepest gratitude to Doug Bond, the speakers, and the entire team at Amity Foundation for hosting an inspiring evening and for their steadfast dedication to our shared mission. Together, we will continue expanding housing, amplifying lived experiences, and creating lasting opportunities for youth across Los Angeles.
