Read more about founder, Garrett Underwood’s path with Seed House Project in this VoyageLA article.

Seed House Project’s journey began not with a conventional plan, but through a series of profound moments that revealed the path forward. Our unique approach to supporting young adults experiencing homelessness emerged from personal experience rather than institutional theory.

Garrett Underwood, Founder and Executive Director of Seed House Project, while running his own clothing brand developed an employment program in partnership with shelters across the nation, providing career workshops and job opportunities that positively impacted over 98 young adults.

Reflecting on the young people he served, Garrett recognized a consistent absence of imaginative energy. Garrett noticed that youth weren’t equipped with tools to see beyond their current circumstances. Their daily survival struggles left little room for dreaming. Garrett envisioned a different future for them—one filled with unwavering support, the power of imagination, and the ability to envision possibilities.

This work took a transformational pivot when one of these young mentees sadly died, and Underwood realized that workforce development wasn’t enough to change the lives of youth facing formidable barriers.

Seed House Project was born from listening closely to young people and recognizing that stability, healing and purpose must grow together. To that end, we developed an intensive two-year residency program thoughtfully designed to address the multiple gaps in services and resources experienced by transition age youth as they attempt to go to college and navigate adulthood.
