Amplifying Purpose and Passion
D.K. has always possessed a clear vision for her future. As a 19-year-old student at LA Pierce College, she is deeply dedicated to becoming an elementary school teacher. Today, she already channels that natural leadership and empathy into her role as an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) tutor, guiding autistic children and those with developmental delays to unlock their own potential. “I absolutely love working with kids,” she says.
Recognizing that her previous living environment didn’t align with her goals or fully celebrate her neurodivergence, D.K. took agency over her well-being. She sought out a space rooted in guidance, kindness, and mutual understanding—a drive that led her to partner with the Seed House Project.
Creating the Space to Flourish
Every ambitious leader needs a solid foundation. Through Seed House Project’s two-year residential model, D.K. secured the stable environment she deserved. With foundational needs like housing and meals fully met, she utilized the program’s resources—including mental health services, financial literacy workshops, college support, and life skills training—as tools to build her future.
The shift in her environment allowed her natural resilience to shine. “Having a kindhearted, supportive roommate has been incredibly healing,” D.K. reflects.
Leaning into this supportive network, D.K. has championed her own personal growth. “The program has helped me step out of my comfort zone, speak up for myself, and truly socialize.” From staying ahead on her college assignments to proactively securing educational accommodations, she has masterfully navigated her academic path.
Connecting Through Shared Experiences
Beyond her studies, D.K. has fully immersed herself in the community, bringing her vibrant energy to sports, group dinners, educational seminars, and city excursions. A major highlight was celebrating her hard work at her very first professional sporting event.
“Going to a Lakers game with Seed House was a big deal! I had always dreamed of going to a big arena but never got to.”
For D.K., the true power of the program lies in the deep, reciprocal bond she shares with her peers—young adults who recognize each other’s worth and resilience.
“We’ve all gone through different stuff, but we bond over the fact that we are here, alive, and getting by day-by-day,” she says. “The organization helps people who want to be helped. We are not taking it for granted.”
Now, with a structured environment and a community that matches her drive, D.K. is confidently stepping into the future she has always envisioned.
“I feel like I am part of a community and I belong,” she smiles. “The program has allowed me to feel that I will have a successful future.”
