Z.T.’s Journey of Resilience
Z.T.’s story is one of profound determination and the power of meaningful connection. Faced with housing instability and navigating neurodiversity and mental health challenges, Z.T. possessed a deep-seated desire for a stable foundation. What he needed was an environment that matched his potential—and he found that collaborative space with the Seed House Project.
Embracing Growth and New Dynamics
Stepping into a new environment always requires courage. As Z.T. adapted to the structured rhythms of case management, higher education, and shared living, he actively worked through the anxieties of his past.
Recognizing his commitment to growth, Seed House Project’s comprehensive two-year residential model served as a launchpad. With foundational stability and consistent meals secured, Z.T. tapped into his own resourcefulness, utilizing the program’s mental health services, life skills workshops, and college support. Showing incredible vulnerability, Z.T. allowed himself to engage with the outreach of his staff and peers, intentionally trading isolation for community.
“I feel connected to staff; asking for help and guidance to resolve issues and stay committed to the program.”
The Big Bear Retreat: Deepening Connections
A defining moment in Z.T.’s journey took place during the winter 2025 wellness retreat in Big Bear. Choosing to step outside his comfort zone, Z.T. leaned into the experience, discovering the restorative power of nature and community.
For ambitious young people managing the fast-paced pressures of urban life, Seed House Project’s annual one-week retreat offers a dedicated space to rest, reflect, and recharge. Experiencing snow for the first time and sharing simple joys like making s’mores allowed Z.T. to access a profound sense of peace. Inspired by the authenticity of his peers, Z.T. found the confidence to share his own story, fostering deep, judgment-free bonds that strengthened the entire household.
Leading the Way Forward
Today, Z.T. is not just a participant, but a powerful leader and advocate for the community that supported his vision for the future.
“Even in times when it can become difficult, this program has created and opened up new opportunities to move forward,” Z.T. says. “Seed House Project programs take commitment and dedication, but it is worth the community and connections that are gained.”
